Beginning April 1, 2017, liner-wide consolidation has entered its third generation with three new alliances: the Ocean Alliance, THE Alliance, and 2M Alliance. The first vessel-sharing consolidation of ocean carrier vessels took place back in the 1980s and 1990s and then again in 2011. The May 31st renewal deadline for the new Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) Ocean Transportation Intermediary licensing program is fast approaching. Keeping the ATA Carnet momentum going in 2017, USCIB announced that Kazakhstan will start accepting ATA Carnets for professional equipment, commercial samples and exhibitions and fairs April 1, 2017. Kazakhstan has had a growing economy since its independence in 1991 and accepting ATA Carnets only furthers its position in the global economy. This makes Kazakhstan the 77th country to accept ATA Carnets. The United States Council for International Business (USCIB) has informed us that effective April 1, 2017, all ATA Carnet Preparers that have a horse(s) entered on their general list will be required to complete and submit an ATA Carnet Horse Questionnaire along with any related supporting documentation before the ATA Carnet can be issued. USCIB recommends Preparers use the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) database as a tool to assist with the validation of the value of the horse(s) in addition to the questionnaire.
