The Foreign Trade Association Presents the Marjorie M. Shostak Distinguished Service Award to Bill Sterrett

It is with great privilege to announce that Bill Sterrett, former President and now Chairman of Roanoke Insurance Group Inc., has been presented with The Marjorie M. Shostak award. This honor is bestowed upon an individual who the Foreign Trade Association’s (FTA) board of directors feels has distinguished him or herself through outstanding service and contributions to the international trade community of Southern California. In receiving the award, Mr. Sterrett, expressed his gratitude to the FTA and honor in being awarded this recognition and in being included in such a distinguished group as the prior recipients. Past recipients include: Marjorie M. Shostak, Robert D. Kleist, Sam Orr, Judge R. Kenton Musgrave, Lew Coppersmith, Enrico Salvo, Lanie Denslow, Richard D. Steinke, Cecilia Castellanos, Dennis Heck, Dan Meylor and Fredrick (Rick) Lorenzen. It is the mission of the FTA to promote, foster and encourage international commerce and economical growth in Southern California worldwide.

Mr. Sterrett accepted the role of Chairman and President of Roanoke in 1985, and under his successful leadership the 83-year-old company expanded its national footprint with offices across the country, servicing thousands of customers. In 2008, Roanoke became a subsidiary of Munich Re, one of the top 10 commercial insurers and one of the 100 largest companies worldwide, and part of Munich Re Specialty Group.

Bill’s support and commitment as an advocate of the international trade and shipping community throughout his career are reflected in his involvement in several organizations, including as a member of the Board of Governors of the American Association of Exporters and Importers (AAEI) from the mid-1990s to 2010, as an active member of the AAEI’s Audit Committee, and as an active board member of the United States Council for International Business (USCIB) since 2008. He is also an active member of World Presidents Organization and the Chief Executives Organization, and has been a member of the American Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society since 1971.
